Notes on HVAC control selection.

Practical questions to take into your next project discussion.

Fan coils: specify the fan and valve separately

A fan-coil specification should name both the fan interface and valve interface. Record 3-speed or EC fan requirements separately from on/off or 0–10 V valve requirements.

Zoning: start with the installation

For a wired or wireless zoning project, record thermostat locations, available cabling, actuator requirements and pump / boiler connections before choosing the control centre.

Heat pumps: document the control sequence

Record heating, cooling and domestic hot-water requirements, where applicable, then confirm the interfaces supported by the heat pump and room controller.
